Canon LBP5050n Drivers for Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion drivers are available from Canon’s Australian site.
Installing these drivers from Canon Japan after upgrading to Mountain Lion (10.8), deleting and re-adding my printer connected via Ethernet worked for me.

After the Canon support told me there weren’t Snow Leopard compatible drivers for my color laser printer LBP5050n available yet and they didn’t have a timeframe I found this site at Canon Asia with one month old drivers called CAPT Printer Driver V3.00 for MacOSX.
After installing, cursing and rebooting I could use my printer again. Needless to say I sent a support mail to Canon’s support…

Double check your configured printers:
One thing you should make sure is to delete the old printer configuration from the Print & Fax Preferences pane. I’ve accidentally deleted the newly set-up printer. The old one will still use the incompatible driver. To check whether the new driver is used open the print queue, click on the Printer Setup icon and on the General tab you’ll find the driver version (3.00 in case of the Snow Leopard drivers).

Thanks to Peer Elmelund-Præstekær of ep-photography.com for sending me the following mail:
March 2011: The link to the drivers in the mail quoted below doesn’t work anymore. I’ve successfully downloaded current drivers from the asian Canon site already linked to above.

Thanks for great post. I have been looking for at stable driver for IP (network) ind Leopard and Snow Leopard. This will work:

Stabel and ready driver available at Canon EU:

http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0034595.asp?model=

It does not tell anything about 10.6 – Snow Leopard – but it works fine. You do NOT get additional software – but you can gain access to most information about suply-levels, MAC-adress and so on, by typing in your printers IP in safari, when installed.

You will need Net Spot to find the printers IP when you install your printer for the very first time (via network / IP ) Find it here:

http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0019454.asp?model=

Both links are very oldschool and Canon-ish, but the crappy software works out just fine.

Thanks for reminding me of the integrated web server. It’s a good way to check the toner and paper level.
Just make sure you use the NetSpot Device Installer before upgrading to Snow Leopard or use another computer to run it.

Good to see the new drivers are available on the EU site as well.

    Hi,
I followed your instructions but my lbp505n is still not working with Snow Leo (it says the software has not been properly installed. Contact support) though I’ve used the CAPT 3.0 with the link provided here. Any idea ?
    Thanx

I’ve noticed the same error message. I can print though.
Are you sure you’ve deleted the old printer and your queue isn’t paused?

I’m still running Lion. You could try canon.com while searching the drivers. Good luck!

Hi, you saved my life. I’m running mountain lion and I’m now able to print on my LBP5050N. I removed the printer, downloaded the Canon (Japan) driver in the link you gave, installed it, then added my printer again. Thanks a lot man.
