December 10th, 2009 by Daniel Gattermann at 23:31h (UTC)Every Safari user on Mac OS X should take a look at ClickToFlash which makes your browsing through the Flash infested World Wide Web pleasant again.
Using ClickToFlash, all of those icky Flash bits that have infected most webpages on the internets are replaced with a nice, smooth gradient and the word “Flash” set in a [...]
Reeder: A Fantastic Google Reader Client for iPhone
December 1st, 2009 by Daniel Gattermann at 20:35h (UTC)Recently I came across Reeder which is a great news reader for the iPhone. It uses Google Reader as a backend so it is easy to sync your feeds across multiple devices and clients (e.g. NetNewsWire on the Mac).
Reeder 1.2—which might get submitted to the app store as early as today—will be quite an update. [...]

September 3rd, 2009 by Daniel Gattermann at 20:16h (UTC)After the Canon support told me there weren’t Snow Leopard compatible drivers for my color laser printer LBP5050n available yet and they didn’t have a timeframe I found this site at Canon Asia with one month old drivers called CAPT Printer Driver V3.00 for MacOSX.
After installing, cursing and rebooting I could use my printer again. [...]
Denial-of-Service Attack Against Twitter
August 6th, 2009 by Daniel Gattermann at 17:30h (UTC)My first thought: searching on Twitter why twitter.com was down. Which didn’t work of course… This is when http://istwitterdown.com or http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com come in handy.
The official Twitter blog informs about an ongoing denial-of-service attack.
While I’m wondering why a company not making any profit at the moment is the target of a DDoS attack, you can follow [...]

July 2nd, 2009 by Daniel Gattermann at 20:40h (UTC)It always bugged me that whenever I’m deleting an e-mail in Apple’s mail client Mail.app another mail is selected and subsequently marked as read. Cmd + Shift + U became a good friend of mine. (It marks a mail as unread.)
TurePreview is a lightweight Mail.app plugin which gives you all the time you need to [...]
Organize Your Cable Clutter
June 19th, 2009 by Daniel Gattermann at 20:45h (UTC)Every now and then a product comes to my attention I wish I needed badly. This time I don’t need it–it’s great nevertheless. Bluelounge’s CableDrop is a product to organize your cables. It has a very minimalist design yet it seems to be awfully effective in removing cable clutter from your desk.
The idea is so [...]
Show “Tweetie for Mac” Using F-Keys
April 20th, 2009 by Daniel Gattermann at 21:40h (UTC)Today Tweetie for Mac was released and like any other Mac user on Twitter I had to try it on its first day.
I like to assign Twitter clients to all of my six Spaces (Mac OS X’s virtual desktops) and toggle the window using the F5 key. Tweetie for Mac didn’t allow this (bug?):
Of course [...]

April 12th, 2009 by Daniel Gattermann at 22:12h (UTC)My Take on Getting Things Done in the Past
Post-its. Everywhere. Small snippets of paper and an inbox full of reminder mails to myself. It worked for some time but this situation couldn’t last any longer. So I started using iCal’s and Mail’s ability to add and manage tasks. Very basic task management was fine using [...]
High Dynamic Range Photos from Japan
March 13th, 2009 by Daniel Gattermann at 18:49h (UTC)Here are some great HDR photos from Japan.
High Dynamic Range imaging is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of luminances between light and dark areas of a scene than normal digital imaging techniques.
I find this technique quite amazing as good HDR photos almost look like a painting.
Useful Twitter Tools for Mac & iPhone Users
March 1st, 2009 by Daniel Gattermann at 16:13h (UTC)After one week using Twitter I’ve decided which apps I’ll be using in the future with this micro blogging service:
Safari140 – Twitter extension for Safari with auto-shorten for long URLs and a great shortcut: ^T
I’m using Tweetie as my iPhone Twitter client. It’s just great!
Decided to use Twitterrific and Safari140 on my Mac. I like [...]

August 12th, 2008 by Daniel Gattermann at 14:32h (UTC)As soon as Apple announced iPhone 3G would feature GPS support a mental image of Nike + iPod sans the iPod came to my mind. About a month after the arrival of the iPhone App Store the first applications to keep track of your running workout are available:
Path Tracker is an inexpensive tool to map [...]

February 27th, 2008 by Daniel Gattermann at 22:17h (UTC)My updated GeoMapLookup — a website to geolocate a host, domain or IP address with Google Maps integration — now sports a newly created iPhone and iPod touch version which was chosen as Apple.com’s Staff Pick and featured web app for February 26th 2008.
GeoMapLookup is a web app to display information about the geographical location [...]
Leopard: Spaces Tips
November 27th, 2007 by Daniel Gattermann at 18:42h (UTC)Apple’s latest Mac OS X incarnation comes bundled with a handy feature called Spaces which is essentially a virtual desktop manager. While being common knowledge that F8 activates spaces for switching and dragging windows between them, the following is little known:
While in the overview mode (F8) you can just press the number of the space [...]
